What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Supervisor position at City of Sunny Isles Beach?
The purpose of this position is to perform administrative, technical, and onsite work in the development and implementation of teen programs and facility supervision for the City of Sunny Isles Beach.
Position Scope:
This is a support position for all City Youth Teen Programs.
This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent may be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.
- Responsible for overseeing daily operations of The Spot including but not limited to identifying equipment needs and repairs, attendance tracking and record keeping, and establishing and executing opening and closing procedures.
- Facilitates member check-in and check-out and accurate record keeping of facility usage.
- Enforces all City and The Spot rules and regulations and recommends corrective actions if necessary.
- Evaluate and recommend updates to existing policies and create and conduct regular teen and staff orientations.
- Assists in supervising and overseeing the performance of contractors providing instructional services and materials at The Spot.
- Respond to public inquiries regarding The Spot information, policies, and activities.
- Responsible for ensuring program equipment and area is prepared for programming and general use.
- Prepares statistical data reports on programming, attendance, and any other relevant information related to the operation of The Spot
- Works closely with the Youth and Teen Coordinator and Recreation Specialist to identify community resources and provide direct support to residents as needed.
- Works with Youth & Teen Programs Coordinator to create schedules and supervise staff: including volunteers, City personnel, and contracted employees/vendors.
- Assist with Teen Talks, Teen events, and any other activities or programs aimed at teens, including IPAL programs held at The Spot.
- Ensure roles and responsibilities are clearly communicated and understood by City personnel, as well as ensuring accountability for meeting goals and objectives.
- Performs any other related job duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of Teen programming
- Knowledge of time management with a focus on achieving immediate results.
- Skills in verbal and written communication.
- Knowledge and proficiency in technological applications including Microsoft Office and CivicRec.
- Ability to enter and retrieve data using the City’s recreation management software.
- Ability to lead, train, and supervise others.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and related resources.
- Ability to foster a team environment and rally volunteers, peers, and City personnel to assist and commit to the success of related programs
- Ability to resolve interpersonal conflict regarding community challenges.
- Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines, sometimes autonomously.
- Ability to be creative and innovative with programming.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment when dealing with City personnel, contractors, vendors, and the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, City personnel, and other City departments.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with teens in a recreation environment or related field.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
- Pediatric CPR & First Aid within 90 days of hire
- DCF Staff or Director Credential preferred

Work is performed in varied indoor and outdoor environments. On a continuous basis, sit at desk and/or stand at counter for long periods of time. Frequently required to walk, see, hear, and talk with the public and read presented documents. On occasion required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, taste, or smell; Intermittently twist and reach; lift or carry weight regularly of 10 pounds and on occasion weight of up to 50 pounds. Specific vision required includes close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

- There is a one-year probationary period.

Salary : $42,805 - $70,200
