GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Assists the Community Development Department with planning and zoning research and various duties related to customer service including the intake of applications for land development proposals, permits, and business revenue receipts. May accompany professional planning staff in the field for research purposes and observation of inspection processes of new construction. Assists with providing responses to business inquiries and property owners in conformance with the City zoning and land development ordinances. Works on special projects as assigned.
Work is performed under general supervision with limited latitude in the use of initiative. Position exercises some judgment in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques. Reports to Assistant Director of Community Development or designee.

Assists with planning and zoning research for proposed development and/or redevelopment projects to assist in preparation of staff reports, planning studies, zoning verification letters, or building permits.
Accompanies Planning and Zoning Division staff in the field to conduct filed research, zoning inspections, and verify land development conditions.
Assists the Planning and Zoning Division staff with the preparation of technical reports and agenda memorandums as required.
Assists the Planning and Zoning Division staff with the preparation and presentation of City code amendments and comprehensive plan amendments to various boards, committees and the City Commission.
Assists administrative staff with application processing tasks.
Adheres to all city and public health and safety guidelines and protocols; performs job functions in a safe manner and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.
Maintains quality communication and interaction with all city personnel, representatives from external organizations, and the public to maintain good will toward the city and to project a positive city image.

Maintains on-call work availability as assigned, to prepare for, respond to, or recover from a hurricane, tropical weather event, or other emergency to meet the city’s obligation to remain operational before, during, and after the event; duties assigned may or may not be typical of the job and are contingent upon the needs of the city and the residents because of the event.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Pay and Bargaining Status
This is a non-exempt position pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is paid on an hourly basis, issued bi-weekly, and subject to overtime pay in accordance with the terms of the current City of Tamarac Personnel Manual. This position is excluded from the collective bargaining agreements between the City of Tamarac and the Federation of Public Employees and between the City of Tamarac and the Local 3080, Metro-Broward Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF.
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by coursework in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Design, Architecture or related area; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
AICP One Path and Traditional AICP Candidates
Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS)
Required Certifications and Licenses
May be required to possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a city owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required (and sponsored) according to job duties and responsibilities.
