The equivalent of a High School Diploma, or three (3) years building maintenance experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License, Class B.

- Assists with a variety of construction projects at City facilities involving demolition, replacement, reconstruction, remodeling or new construction.
- Performs routine plumbing repairs such as unstopping toilets, sinks or urinals, fixing water leaks, leaking faucets and water fountains, replacing water heaters, etc.
- Repairs and replaces doors, doorknobs, locks or hardware, repairs door closures, patches holes in walls, paints, lays carpet and linoleum; repairs concrete and stucco.
- Assembles and repairs furniture; installs or replaces ceiling tile, refinishes counter tops, desks and walls.
- Observes standard operating procedures and safety practices at all times.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of one or more skilled trades related to building construction, maintenance, repair and renovation.
- Knowledge of a variety of building maintenance procedures and techniques including occupational hazards and safety practices related to building maintenance and repair work.
- Knowledge of specialized machinery, equipment and tools necessary for the maintenance, repair and remodeling of public buildings.
- Knowledge of customer service practices.
- Ability to safely operate assigned vehicles, power and hand tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time in all weather extremes.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints, shop drawings and engineering/architectural drawings.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work including the general public.
OTHER JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
- Exposure to potential physical harm, dangerous machinery, infectious disease, and hazardous chemicals.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy or bulky items frequently (
80-up to100 lbs.). - Must be able to wear personal protective equipment required to perform the essential functions of the job.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
- City vehicles (dump, bucket and crane), various hand and power tools including table and skill saws, routers, pneumatic nailers, staplers, biscuit jointer, concrete saw, torches, welder, ramset, etc.
The equivalent of a High School Diploma, or three (3) years building maintenance experience.
