What are the responsibilities and job description for the Beach Lifeguard Supervisor position at City of Verona?
Under the supervision of the Recreation Director and the Beach Manager, the Lifeguard Supervisor also provides all employees with the daily supervision necessary to smoothly run an efficient facility, and to help ensure the safety of patrons.
Lead supervision of lifeguards and monitor activities at the beach. Gives instruction in beach operating procedures, rules, safety practices, maintenance, and related matters. Conducts safety checks of facility and coordinates maintenance. Provides a positive image for staff.
Assists in cleaning the lifeguard room during the summer.
Orients new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities.
Schedules, coordinates, and conducts in-service training.
Ensures that all lifeguards are ready to go for opening day (this includes knowing all beach rules, understanding rotations, proper scanning techniques, what to do in an emergency, knowing all staff rules and guidelines, etc.)
Enforces beach rules and regulations with consistency throughout the summer.
Inventories and recognizes when supplies or equipment need to be ordered and communicates the needs to Recreation Department staff.
Is punctual.
Inspects the water front area and equipment as directed.
Utilize When to Work for employee scheduling and BS&A for payroll.
Assists in evaluation of all lifeguards.
Oversees the completion of accident/incident/rescue forms when necessary.
Is prepared to react in an emergency situation.
Works cooperatively with other members of the staff.
Attends all beach staff meetings.
Keeps recreation department staff and beach manager informed of schedule changes, staffing issues, and beach/equipment concerns.
Performs related duties as required.Must have at least 1-2 years of lifeguarding experience.
Valid Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification, WSI certification a plus.
Must be mature and responsible.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Enjoy working with adults and children.
Ability to establish good rapport with staff.
Remain at the facility at all times while on duty, including break times.
Send lifeguards home early on slow or rainy days.
Close facility if weather becomes severe or is impending (for lifeguards).
