Job Duties:
The City of Virginia Beach is recruiting for a Business Application Specialist I to join the Director's Office division of the Planning & Community Development department. The BAS will support one or more divisions within the Planning Department.
Specific duties/responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Provide support for the Planning department applications.
Troubleshoot and triage department software/hardware requests.
Analyze and document department divisions’ business processes; Identify opportunities to improve process efficiency and productivity.
Maintain division’s inventory of hardware; Configure and deploy mobile hardware (MiFI, Cell phones, Tablets) used by field staff.
Research records for FOIA (Freedom of Information Act)requests and City Manager inquiries.
Create/Update custom reports (Ad-hoc and/or SQL)
Liaison with IT Department to resolve software and/or hardware issues.
Conduct meetings or make presentations to communicate information as requested or needed.
Assists in department level business application support for the Accela application, including user support and training for approximately 135 users.
Assist in software upgrades, including testing, training, and troubleshooting. Assist in developing training materials and assist in end-user training.
Review software code and/or data for discrepancies.

Minimum Requirements:
MINIMUMS: Any combination of education (above high school), training, and/or experience equivalent to four (4) years in a field related to functional support for automated business operations in a network or server-based environment for the agency where the IT services are being used, utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. May be required to have or obtain a valid drivers license. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
- Experience developing system and process documentation and/or presentations
- Experience testing software implementations, deployments and upgrades.

- Experience with Microsoft Visio
- Experience participating on a project team and internal customer service
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and function under pressure
- Experience troubleshooting hardware and software
- Experience providing system analysis
- Implementation, configuration, support, and system administration experience of IT systems/apps
