Position Summary
The City of West St Paul is currently accepting applications for a Community Service Officer position. You will be supporting the Police Department by performing varied services that relieve sworn police officers as needed. This role is the position for developing the incumbent for a potential future police officer role. Expectations for duration of this position is up to 3 years, with discretion from leadership.

- Public Relations. Recognizes opportunities to provide guidance and service to the public
- Assists with traffic and vehicle issues as directed by patrol officers
- Enforces parking regulations
- Assists in scheduling maintenance and maintains records on department owned vehicles and equipment.
- Supports the crime prevention and code enforcement programs.
- Delivers correspondence and materials, including the transfer of evidentiary items.
- Handles minor, non-injury, traffic collisions and non-precarious service calls as assigned.
- Administrative support back-up.
- Assists with collecting and returning found property in the community.
- Responds to animal control calls
- Transports prisoners and others to appropriate destinations
- Communication. Follow both written and oral instructions; as well as preparing clear and comprehensive written reports of situation.
- Lift, push, pull, drag, and carry up to 50 pounds; or heavier with assistance.
- Stand for long periods of time, walk, jump, climb, sit, bend, squat, kneel, twist; inside and outside work
- Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as are apparent or assigned.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently accepted or enrolled in a post-secondary law enforcement program
- Possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license without suspensions or revocations within the past three [3] years
- Experience as a Reserve Officer
- Fluent in a 2nd language with emphasis in conversational Spanish

- Knowledge of city ordinances and related laws and regulations
- Knowledge of the functions and jurisdictions of the county, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
- Working knowledge of related state and federal laws,
- First aid training
- Provide clear communication to the public concerning safety, security and crime prevention.
