The City of West St. Paul is now accepting applications for the 2025 Spring & Summer Season.
We are hiring for the following positions:
Landscape Maintenance Worker Salary: $25 - $30 hourly Hours: 6:30am - 12:00pm (M-F)
Street Maintenance Worker** Salary: $18 (new hires) - $19 (re-hires) hourlyHours:6:30am - 2:45pm (M-F)
Hours:6:30am - 2:45pm (M-F)
Preference will be given to those who can work the full season. Consideration will still be given to those who can work some months.
This job posting may close early once positions are filled.
Landscape:1. Maintain city owned plantings along Robert Street both in the median and behind the curbs as well as various parks.
2.Prune Trees, weed planting beds, replace plants and fertilize.
3. Pick up and remove litter and dispose properly.
Park Maintenance Day & Afternoon/Night:
1. Perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of parks, buildings, and grounds.
2. Maintain active play areas, such as ball fields, tennis courts, and skating rinks.
3. Maintain park facilities, such as picnic shelters, playground areas, and public buildings.
4. operate and maintain vehicles and equipment used to perform maintenance assignments.
5. Operate and maintain power tools.
6.Perform maintenance practices such as tree planting, mowing, trimming, weeding, ball field grooming, and lining, garbage collection, and sodding.
7. Assist in the construction of park facilities and active play areas such as playground structures, backstop, hockey rinks, and retaining walls.
8. Perform related tasks as required.
Street Maintenance:
1. Repair asphalt and gravel road surfaces including patching, overlays, and crack sealing.
2. Install, maintain, and replace street identification, traffic control signs, and pavement markings.
3.Perform concrete curb and sidewalk repair and replacement.
4.Perform street cleaning operations, catch basin repair, and cleaning.
5.Load and haul material for street maintenance and repair/equipment maintenance.
6.Perform boulevard, ditch, and right of way cleaning, and rough-cut mowing.
7. Perform minor vehicle, building, and grounds maintenance.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
9. Ability to safely operate the following equipment:
a. Pick-up trucks and 1-ton trucks.
b. Miscellaneous power tools.
c. Miscellaneous construction tools and equipment.
d. Miscellaneous tools associated with equipment maintenance.
e. Other street maintenance related equipment.
1. Must be 16 years of age by first date of employment.
2. Must possess a valid Minnesota driver's license with no suspensions or revocation within the last three (3) years.
3.**Landscaping Maintenance**- previous experience with landscape maintenance.Landscape Maintenance Worker

2.Work independently and safely along a busy thoroughfare.
3.Stand, bend, kneel, and walk for long periods of time while in hot, cold, or wet conditions.
4.Work outside during temperature extremes.
5.Use large and fine motor skills, sometimes repetitively and to manipulate garden and hand tools.
6.Pull weeds and lift and carry bags of fertilizer, litter, and shrubs.
Park Maintenance Day & Afternoon/Night:
1.Knowledge of park maintenance and park operations.
2.Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and practices used in park maintenance,
including ground keeping.
3. Safely operate light equipment to maintain parks and recreational facilities. Perform manual labor requiring continual use of large motor skills, bending, reaching, crouching, stretching, pushing, pulling shoveling twisting, and turning to perform the work.
4.Frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds or lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
5.Maintain a good driving record.
6.Work outside during inclement weather and extremes of temperature.
7.Must use fine motor skills, sometimes repetitively to manipulate hand tools and small parts.
8.Work with exposure to loud noises and pesticides.
9.Communicate effectively with City staff and the public and operate a radio and phone.
10.Read and follow written and oral instructions.
11.Maintain effective working relationships.
Street Maintenance Worker
1. Perform heavy manual labor requiring continual use of large motor skills, bending, reaching, crouching, stretching, pushing, pulling shoveling twisting, and turning to perform the work.
2. Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
3. Maintain a good driving record per requirement.
4. Work outside during inclement weather and extremes temperatures.
5. Use fine motor skills, sometimes repetitively to manipulate hand tools and small parts.
6. Work with exposure to loud noises and fumes.
