The Wastewater Plant Operator - Class B will perform a variety of skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater treatment plant facilities and systems. The Plant Operator will work under the general supervision of the Chief Wastewater Operator and / or the Utilities Operations Manager.
Examples of Duties
- Monitors and adjusts the performance of all equipment, gauges, and charts in the wastewater treatment plant; records statistical data concerning plant operations; maintains, operates, repairs, and replaces equipment as necessary; charts lab test results for trend analysis and maintains accurate records of analysis and test results; evaluates data and writes reports as required
- Operates, maintains and repairs malfunctions at the wastewater treatment plant. Repairs gauges, pumps, filters, and other controls and equipment
- Collects all samples and identifies concentrations of chemical, physical, or biological characteristics of water required in accordance with local, state, and Federal requirements. Gathers and tests water samples for plant efficiency as required. Monitors water quality and checks turbidity, chlorine, and fluoride levels
- Performs quality control tests on lab equipment and lab analyses; evaluates procedures and results for accuracy and determines appropriate methods
- Assures that plant operates within required standards and all routine equipment adjustments as necessary
- Trains (as needed) lesser skilled wastewater treatment plant operators for plant operational procedures, sampling and maintenance operations
- Calibrates, modifies or repairs all instrumentation and control equipment including but not limited to chart recorders, chlorination equipment, high-service pumps, well pumps, SCADA controls, ground storage tanks, elevated storage tanks, buildings and structures
