What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Aquatics Supervisor position at City of Winston-Salem?
Assist the Aquatic Supervisor in his/her absence, assume all duties in the following: conduct a wide variety of specialized programs and activities; assist in organizing and directing a diversified program of recreational swimming, water sports and swimming instructions; assist in the supervision of 8 city operated swimming pools and water park; assist in supervision of lifeguards and others operating and maintaining municipal swimming pools; provide excellent customer service to citizens while providing information to the general public and assist in business practices.
- Assist in monitoring/assigning swimming pool staff schedules to provide adequate coverage during operating hours; assist in planning, scheduling and directing various recreational programs; visits swimming pools on a regular bases ensuring policies and procedures are being enforced properly by staff, assists in the handling of paper work from swimming pools.
- Keeps track of revenue and attendance figures of the Aquatic Program.
- Assist in monitoring in-service training of lifeguards; assists with enforcing swimming pool regulations; assists in the supervision of the Aquatic Program.
- Mentors and coaches lifeguards and other staff on job duties and responsibilities; recommends and promotes new programs and changes in existing ones; interface with patrons regarding concerns, problems or other significant issues.
- Maybe asked to respond to calls for assistance to swimming pools 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to four years of college or experience as a lifeguard or swimming instructor.
Knowledge of: some pool operations including plant and program; knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions needed for safe swimming pool operation; knowledge of modern office practices, methods, basic mathematics and bookkeeping principles, equipment, including computers.
Ability and Skill to: ability to organize a comprehensive activities program; assist in supervision of a diverse staff; ability to deal tactfully with the general public. Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, in person and on the telephone.

- American Red Cross Lifeguarding or YMCA Lifeguarding, First Aid
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Water Safety Instructor Certification
