Description

Job Summary:

Recovery counselors provide individual and group counseling and teach appropriate classes for guests and program participants as a part of our Biblically Integrated Trauma Informed approach to care and services.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Function as a positive contributing staff member of City Union Mission by engaging in timely communication, active participation in meetings, strategic planning, data management, supplying accurate reports, and problem solving to ensure unity with the purpose and goals of the Mission.
  • Provide Christ-centered counseling services through initial screenings, healthy living recovery plans, individual and group counseling for the guests in the Women’s and Family Center. Promote the benefit of participating in the NLP when appropriate for a guest's healthy living recovery plan. Document all treatment interventions according to policy.
  • As directed and in partnership with the Program leadership teams and Clinical Director, assist in the development of health recovery resources and trauma-informed training seminars that strengthen the Biblically Integrated Trauma Informed approach to services.
  • Upon Women Family Ministries’ leadership request, provide counseling support for the NLP program participants, teach classes and lead chapel services. Collaborate with the program leadership upon request to assist in hospital referrals, crisis intervention, conflict resolution and contribute clinical expertise to case management teams as needed.
  • Oversee clinical internships as assigned. Maintain a professional development plan and credentials in good standing. Attend training events and clinical services team meetings as directed.
  • Seek to exemplify Jesus Christ daily and present the Gospel daily as opportunity arises.
  • Be willing to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • City Union Mission Requirements:

  • Be a born again, mature Christian able to clearly communicate the Gospel as opportunities arise during the workday. (1 Peter 2:21, 3:15)
  • Have a desire to serve the Lord through widely varied responsibilities to advance ministry to those currently homeless, and the urban poor of Kansas City, with a compassionate heart.
  • Agree to City Union Mission’s Statement of Ministry:
    • Be a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, as expressed by personal testimony and conduct.
    • Be a member in good standing of a recognized protestant, evangelical church for one year or more.
    • Have a genuine concern for the ministry of City Union Mission.
    • Have a minimum of one year of sobriety from alcohol and drugs and six months from tobacco.
    • Agree to abstain from alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, and tobacco while employed by City Union Mission.
    • Have a lifestyle that is free of sexual sin as clearly defined in the Bible.
  • Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in using evidenced-based counseling treatment models that are Biblically-Integrated and Trauma Informed: CPT, TICBT, or ACT
  • Demonstrate leadership, good judgment, sensitivity, neatness, accuracy and dependability alongside counseling competencies in screening, intake, assessment, treatment planning, and crisis intervention
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective and clear communication, and be flexible and adaptable to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate computer literacy in Google and Microsoft applications
  • Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling or other behavior science field that leads to professional certification/licensure in counseling or social work
  • Licensed LPC, LMFT, LCSW with 2-5 years’ experience in counseling, substance abuse or addiction recovery
  • Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing/kneeling, etc.
