JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision,
performs inspections on single family, multi-family, and mobile homes in
accordance with the established U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development
(HUD) regulations. The Housing Inspector will ensure that participants reside
in a safe, decent, and sanitary environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform routine inspections of residential properties, including single family homes, multi-family units, mobile homes, and apartment complexes.
- Assess the physical condition of the property, including structural integrity, plumbing, electrical systems, heating/cooling, and general maintenance.
- Identify safety hazards, such as faulty writing, lead paint, and unsafe conditions that may endanger tenants.

- Meet with property owners, manager, or landlords to discuss any required repairs or improvements.
- Perform re-inspections of properties after repairs or improvements have been made to ensure compliance with HUD standards.
- Maintain detailed inspection records, including written records and photographic evidence of property conditions.
- Provide information and general guidance to citizens about the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
- Stay updated on changes to HUD policies, regulations, and Housing Quality Standards (HQS) to ensure inspections are conducted in accordance with the latest requirements.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Host workshops aimed at educating tenants, property owners, and property managers about the Housing Authority’s programs.
- Prepare and deliver clear, concise presentations of inspection findings to various stakeholders, including property owners, management, tenants, and local government representatives.
- On a nontypical basis, may perform other additional duties not listed in this description that are in alignment with the scope of essential job functions.
