The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the position of Records Clerk, Detention. This is a civilian entry-level position in our Detention Center. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.
Hours:
This is a full-time position 40 hours a week; must be flexible with schedule based on the needs of the organization.
Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm

Job Summary & Essential Duties
- Monitors and oversees the security of public lobby area in the Clay County Detention Center; allow or prohibits access and/or departure using electronic access controls; monitors electronic weapon screening devices.
- Meets and greets the public, providing response to questions for standard information and providing explanation of well-defined rules; inspects identification card; schedules public and attorney visits for inmates.
- Answers telephone calls, ascertaining the nature of the call, and directing it to the appropriate area; takes telephone messages.
- Provide booking and bond information to bonding companies and citizens.
- Performs basic record keeping duties, and maintains accurate filing of unit records, reports, and documentation.
- Performs various administrative duties in supporting unit functions; opens and distributes mail; delivers legal mail to inmates, enters data into various electronic databases, receives and stamps court transactions; files and copies documents; maintains logs and receipts.
- Receives and date stamps incoming court documentations; distributes documents to appropriate personnel.
- Performs cash handling; receipts funds and may assist commissary, collects money from kiosks in lobby and booking Other various bookkeeping duties as assigned.
- Collects bonds from safe, enters into CTC system, and writes out bonds to court.
- Checks CTC system to answer questions or print off notary and copies
- May cross train in areas related to: In State/Out of State extraditions, writs, Governor’s Warrants, state reimbursement, board bills and detainers.
- Other duties as assigned and reasonably qualified to perform.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to maintain accurate records; enter and retrieve data or information into a terminal, computer, or other keyboard device
- Make arithmetic computations with speed and accuracy, ability to use calculator
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Interact with the public tactfully and courteously; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to exert low to moderate physical effort; will involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of weight (less than 20 pounds); remain in a seated position for extended periods of time at keyboard or workstation.
- Working knowledge of modern office terminology, procedures and methods.
- Prefer at least one year of increasingly responsible related experience, or any equivalent experience, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain MULES certification.
Salary: $17.75 hourly; $36,920 yearly plus full benefits
