SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Special Education, the compliance manager is responsible for assisting in monitoring program compliance and compliance factors and regulations are observed and implemented accurately. Plans, directs and monitor district’s special education services to assure compliance with special education laws and regulations and work within the framework of district policy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Schedule and provide oversight of monthly interdisciplinary staff meetings, goalsetting, and professional development.
- Collaborate and consults with district administrators, school administrators and district staff in the planning, implementation and evaluation of educational services for students.
- Regularly reports to building administrators and staff on changes in special education law and procedures to keep the district in compliance and to facilitate services to special education students.
- Evaluate program effectiveness, including successful educational supports, and adapts strategies based on results.
- Develop ways to facilitate the learning and adjustment of students.
- Monitor and support Interim Academic Educational Settings – Bridges, TLC Re-Entry.
- Coordinate with the College and Career Readiness department on 504 compliance with school counselors and nurses.
- Provide school and district wide trainings in compliance with federal and state rules and regulations, record keeping and required reports for all state and federal agencies.
- Consult with and support various district staff such as general education teachers, special education teachers, secondary department chairs, and counselors.
- Develop and maintain support guidelines by creating and updating district procedures and practice documents and providing input for board policy changes.
- Communicate current special education rules, regulations and CPSD policy and procedures.
- Assure quality of delivery of services by developing and interpreting district, local and state guidelines for instruction, curriculum and instructional materials.
- Adjust to varied situations, demands and new federal and state laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with staff to address compliance concerns that require district support beyond the building level.
- Maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training.
- Support staff by coaching and mentoring their reporting practice.
- Maintain a cooperative relationship among staff by communicating information and leading team-building activities.
- Ensure maintenance of program statistics and services data.
- Complete safety net, community impact and federal impact applications with the state.
- Train staff or coordinate training in the following areas, including but not limited to IEPs, record keeping, state and federal regulations.
- Assist the Assistant Director in ensuring compliance to federal, state, program, and agency regulations, such as, Child Protective Service reporting requirements, and emergency preparedness program, as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Baccalaureate degree in Special Education or related field.
- Three years prior experience in Special Education preferred.
- Knowledge of special education regulations and educational policies.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Certification and Licenses
- Washington state special education teaching certification.
- Washington state administrative certification or in the process of obtaining.
- Successful fingerprint and background check.
- First Aid/CPR card within ninety (90) days from date of hire.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of insurance.
- Documents needed to obtain access to Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM).
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in special education, or related field.
- Experience working as an educator in an urban public school system.
- Experience in planning and implementing professional development activities.
- Demonstrates skills in collaboration and consultation.
- Demonstrates ability to work with systems to foster change.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to interpret educational data for instructional purposes.
- Demonstrates the ability to coordinate across general and special education systems and services to implement effective planning for students.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $128,997.00 - $158,572.00 per year
