Job Summary:
Coastal Security is seeking a dedicated and professional Part-Time Armed School Safety Officer to provide security and ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors during weekend activities. This role is responsible for monitoring school grounds, responding to security incidents, and maintaining a safe environment in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a visible security presence during weekend school events, activities, and facility operations.
- Monitor school property, patrol the campus, and respond to security concerns or emergencies.
- Enforce school policies, procedures, and applicable laws to maintain a safe environment.
- Conduct access control by screening visitors and ensuring only authorized individuals enter school grounds.
- Respond to disturbances, conflicts, or threats with appropriate de-escalation techniques or necessary force, in compliance with state laws and school policies.
- Work closely with school administration, law enforcement, and emergency personnel as needed.
- Complete incident reports, document security-related occurrences, and provide recommendations for safety improvements.
- Perform routine safety checks, including ensuring doors, windows, and security systems are secure.
- Assist in emergency preparedness drills and provide guidance during crisis situations.
- Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor when interacting with students, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years old (or meet the state's minimum age requirement for armed security personnel).
- Possess a valid state-issued armed security officer license (must meet firearm certification requirements in South Carolina, Georgia, or Florida, depending on location).
- Law enforcement, military, or security experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of school safety procedures, emergency response, and de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to remain calm and make quick, effective decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and psychological evaluation as required by law.
- Must be physically capable of patrolling school grounds and responding to incidents as needed.
Work Schedule & Conditions:
- Weekend shifts only (Saturday and Sunday) with potential for additional hours during special events.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- May involve standing, walking, and responding quickly to emergencies.
