Responsibilities
Your Role:
The Operations Supervisor - Metal Processing plays a crucial customer-facing role, responsible for purchasing and pricing non-ferrous metals at the scale. This position requires the ability to manage a fast-paced environment, handle difficult personalities, and provide exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate will be on their feet most of the day, using a buyer’s mentality and software systems to ensure accurate transactions.
- Accurately distinguish and grade various non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper, copper wire, brass, and stainless steel
- Efficiently clear the scale, ensuring all transactions are completed quickly and accurately to maintain workflow. Maintain standards of organization and cleanliness around the scale buying area
- Negotiate rangebound prices and execute purchases based on current market conditions using a software system designed for scale transactions
- Work closely with the Scale Buyer Assistant to manage daily operations, including material separation and customer education
- Help customers understand material types and grades, and provide guidance on how to prepare materials for better pricing
- Accurately record all purchases, weights, and material types in the software system, and generate payment receipts
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in non-ferrous metal purchasing or a related role in the recycling or scrap metal industry
- Potential to 45-50 hours per week, with flexibility for overtime as needed
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/move heavy materials outdoors
- Preferred: Bilingual (Spanish or Creole)
