Position Information
This position is responsible for conducting research, analysis, and coordination of special projects that enhance departmental functions, policies, and services. This position supports management in operational assessments, policy administration, accreditation, strategic planning, and compliance. It serves as a liaison between the department and external organizations, ensuring adherence to regulations and best practices.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a professional-level position that provides technical and administrative support in managing departmental initiatives. This position will have supervisory responsibilities. It does not serve in a managerial capacity but may oversee project teams, contractors, or consultants. The level of authority and autonomy is determined by and delegated from the Department Director or Division Administrator.
Essential Functions
Conducts research, productivity analyses, inspections and management studies to assess departmental operations, programs, and services. Identifies trends, compiles reports, and makes recommendations to improve efficiency, service delivery, and resource allocation.
Coordinates and oversees special projects, including policy development, new program implementation, accreditation processes, and departmental certification efforts. Ensures project goals align with organizational priorities and are effectively executed.
Responsible for accreditation and certification processes such as CALEA Accreditation, GACP State Certification, or other applicable industry standards. Manages compliance activities, documentation, and program development to maintain accredited status. Conducts assessments, inspections, and audits as required or necessary.
Serves as a subject matter expert in department policy, ensuring policies are updated, distributed, and aligned with state, federal, and accreditation requirements. Provides technical guidance on policy-related matters.
Oversees professional contractors and consultants providing services for departmental initiatives. Participates in selection, contract negotiations, and quality assurance efforts to ensure project success.
Assists with short- and long-term planning efforts at the local, regional, and state level. Monitors legislative changes affecting departmental operations and ensures compliance with new regulations.
Represents the department at meetings, events, and committees. Works with governmental agencies, task forces, and community organizations to advance departmental objectives.
Oversees the department’s policy management system and software, accreditation/certification system and software, which includes uploading, organizing, and maintaining documentation, conducting surveys, and assisting other personnel and units who utilize the system.
Develops and delivers presentations to stakeholders, community groups, and other audiences to raise awareness of departmental programs, crime prevention, public safety, and other relevant topics.
Serves as a resource on department-wide initiatives and cross-functional projects.
Responds to inquiries, complaints, and concerns from internal and external stakeholders.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years of experience in project coordination, policy administration, accreditation, or compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
Must have a valid drivers license.
Must be able to complete the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Certification Manager's Training Course and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Accreditation Manager's Training Course within one (1) year of employment.
