Position Summary: Inspect and process eggs for incubation, inspect and process chicks, maintain hatchery facility. Other duties may be assigned. Minimum Requirements: Must be able to achieve and maintain a respirator certification: TM’s must remain clean shaven during all scheduled work hours. Must have valid drivers license. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Grading eggs via light source for traying and transfer of eggs from pedigree flocks (10%) Setting of eggs which consists of: observes shell color and texture, internal characteristics such as streaks, shadings, discolorations, size and position of yolk, and size of air cell; places hatching eggs in buggies; place broken, dirty or other substandard eggs in container (15%) Process and vaccinate day old chicks (15%) Record data entry of egg and chick information onto touch screen tablet (10%) Performs the following sanitation activities: operate tray washer, remove eggshells and culled chicks; clean and sanitize setters, hatchers, egg rooms, and chick processing areas (40%) Other duties, responsibilities, and activities: These may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as: sort pedigree eggs by line and hen; clean hatchery office, break room and restrooms; sanitize vehicles; fill in for egg facility during Team Member shortage; perform simple math via assisting with egg orders; properly euthanize weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy; respirator use when necessary (10%) Biosecurity/Animal Welfare: The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move, up to 40 pounds to move items such as tray of eggs, etc; tools, such as wheeled buggy, may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 500 pounds such as egg buggies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor/padded floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; weekly changing of filters and lightbulbs; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Must have good communication skills to accurately convey opinions and concerns. Tools and Equipment: Tablet, Tray Wash, Syringes, Respirator, Pressure Washer Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments. Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles, safety glasses, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required. Ear plugs will be used as required. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed. Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants such as Synergize, Virocid, Simple Green, Lysol, Formaldehyde, Chlorofoam, Acid-a-foam, bleach, etc. Safety: TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. TM is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.. General Sign-Off: The employee is expected to adhere to all company policies. Failure to perform this job to above standards could lead to progressive discipline up to and including termination.
