Position: Senior Accountant
Location: Brooklyn, NYC
Reports To: Accounting Manager
Responsibilities:
As a Senior Accountant, you will take ownership of the following responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and ensure the timely, accurate, and complete GAAP-compliant monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- General Ledger & Closing: Perform period-end closing activities, including the preparation and posting of journal entries, accruals, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, and supporting schedules.
- Research & Analysis: Conduct ad-hoc research and analysis, utilizing information from various systems.
- Judgments & Estimates: Research, calculate, and document significant judgments and estimates, including emerging or complex accounting treatments.
- Vendor & Expense Management: Provide day-to-day operational support (e.g., reviewing invoices, resolving vendor issues) and oversee the timely and accurate processing of vendor payments in compliance with contractual terms and company policies.
- Documentation & Internal Controls: Drive the development and maintenance of documentation for key accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Tax Return Support: Liaise with internal and external partners to ensure the timely preparation of monthly and quarterly tax returns (e.g., sales, use, property, income, payroll) across multiple jurisdictions.
- Process Improvement: Proactively evaluate and implement improvements to accounting processes and procedures.
- Audit Support: Assist with the annual audit and quarterly review processes with external auditors.
Qualifications:
To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and characteristics:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 3 years of accounting experience, ideally with a mix of public accounting and retail or hospitality environments.
- Certification: CPA certification preferred.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- ERP Systems: Experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems.
- Accounting Software: Experience with Coupa or similar billing/invoicing software.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPS, Pivot Tables).
- Problem Solving: Ability to identify problems, propose solutions, and communicate effectively.
- Independence: Ability to work independently, manage deliverable timelines, and communicate workstream issues.
- Team Mindset: Approaches work collaboratively, understanding the value of cross-functional communication.
