Comanche County Consolidated Hospital District EMS serves residents in the entire Comanche County and surrounding area. We partner with Comanche County Medical Center--a 25-bed facility with an Emergency Department, Outpatient Clinic, and Surgery Department--to provide the best experience for residents in need of emergency services and beyond.
We are currently seeking a qualified EMS Director to join our outstanding EMS team!
Scope/Impact
Plans, directs, and coordinates the overall operation of the ambulance service to insure safe and effective operation. Supervises ambulance service personnel. OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens Class I.
Job Functions
1) Promote and markets the EMS service in the communities’ service is provided through community events, advertising and required meetings.
2) Build, implement and maintain a standard new hire onboarding program based on industry best practices. Build, implement and maintain annual training program for all employees.
3) Ensure required competencies, certification and licenses are met and maintained for employees.
4) Directs, supervises and coaches subordinates’ performance of duties.
5) Makes recommendations for hiring, promotions and disciplinary actions in accordance with salary and personnel policies.
6) Maintains adequate staffing levels and scheduling for 24/7 service.
7) Maintains all policies based on regulatory requirements.
8) Follows safety procedures assuring safe and proper transfer of the sick or injured patient to medical facilities or pre-determined destination.
9) Maintains ambulance maintenance logs. Keeps ambulance and equipment in optimum operating condition by cleaning and checking to ensure safe and efficient operation of vehicle and equipment.
10) Manages department expenses as directed by the annual budget.
11) Collects information and assists as required in processing claims for patients. Obtains, when possible, pertinent patient information by interviewing patient or others and by observing and evaluating patient’s condition and relays information to dispatcher or emergency room by radio in order that information may be passed on to the medical facility.
12) Maintains dispatching records by recording information required by dispatching form in order to provide an accurate record of activity.
13) Obtains patient information necessary for billing.
14) Responsible for EMS/Training Reporting System and the QA/QI program for the department.
15) Responsible for daily charges and running reports.
16) Assures restocking after each call to ensure adequate supplies.
17) Routinely verifies supplies are not expired and equipment is in proper operation condition.
18) Completes duties of a paramedic, as necessary. Assists in removing sick and injured patients from various difficult positions and situations using prudent methods, always considering patient’s injuries and danger of situation. Administers first aid to sick and injured patient in accordance with prudent first aid techniques and degree of training. Reassures patient and is attentive to patient’s rights and religious beliefs. Provides care appropriate for the neonate and the pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Assesses and interprets data on neonate and the pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patient’s status to identify patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.
19) Maintains HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
20) Follows safety guidelines and policies for the Medical Center.
21) Abides by Legal Compliance Policy Program of the Medical Center.
License(s) / Certification(s) / Registration(s)
Required: Current certification by the Texas Department of Health as an Emergency Medical Services Paramedic. Emergency medical services provider license administrator of record Current Driver’s License. Training in a Texas Department of Health certified program. Obtains and maintains Administrator on records certification. BLS required.
Preferred: ACLS, PALS.
Education Required
Required: High School graduate or equivalent. Paramedic Required.
Preferred: Degree preferred.
Amount and Type of Experience
Required: Two years working in an emergency medical environment. Current Paramedic registry, required.
Preferred: Two years supervisory and or training experience, preferred.
