The Outside Sales Representative supports and grows sales in the Commercial group. The responsibilities include managing territory, while increasing business with existing accounts and increasing market share, and sales revenues by developing new accounts.
Job Duties:
- Develop and execute a sales program on a segment-specific basis which will include:
- Acting as an account coordinator for assigned accounts.
- Prepare customer presentations, proposals, and contracts in coordination with Management.
- Prospects for new business in those segments of the market that offer the greatest potential for profitable market growth.
- Actively encouraging all customers to deepen their business relationship with Combined Metals through competitive market pricing, parallel selling, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Assessing the profit potential of all accounts - existing and prospective.
- Eliminating unprofitable business and transferring account responsibility to Inside Sales for profitable but low potential business.
- Accepts responsibility for all Combined Service Centers' interaction with assigned accounts.
- Coordinate requests for information and quotations with Inside Sales, Inventory Management, and Supply Chain.
- Coordinate orders with the warehouse and appropriate sales departments.
- Coordinate the resolution of customer complaints, damaged/incorrect material, and delivery/inventory problems.
- Look for opportunities to train, coach, and mentor new inside and outside sales personnel.
- Provide pricing feedback to improve the effectiveness of the current pricing program and support market share growth.
- Maintain a record-keeping and reporting system in CRM as required by management
- Account profiles for all assigned accounts.
- Regularly update account plans and objectives as appropriate to the profit potential of each customer.
- Call itineraries and outcomes which are used to keep Combined Metals management, Inside Sales, and Operations informed of developments at each account.
- Respond to periodic requests for information from management and corporate functions.
- Travel, including overnight travel, as necessary to serve assigned accounts and territory.
- Keep properly informed on products and services and business issues of interest to customers.
- Outside Sales Representatives are responsible for:
- Developing and implementing a prospect, customer, geographic, product, and or industry-specific sales strategy.
- Planning each sales call.
- Calling only those customers with high, long-term potential and are profitable, collectible, and sustainable.
- Knowledge of customer business
- Differentiation by cost saving and service.
- Providing error-free work to all internal and external customers related to the output of the position.
- Knowledge of the customer's business
- Creating authority within Combined Service Centers for all aspects of customer relations by achieving respect for good judgment
Requirements:
- 4-year degree in Business or other related field is required.
- Minimum 5 years of stainless-steel experience with at least 3 years of commercial experience. Service center experience is a plus.
- Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, a high level of interpersonal skills, the ability to interact with the customer and develop strong personal working relationships at all organizational levels.
- Knowledge of effective sales techniques and strategies.
- Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks concurrently and to work independently. Have an overall business and economic knowledge.
- Must be proficient with Windows based applications and Microsoft Office applications.
- Up to 75% travel required in designated territory (Northern Chicagoland, IA, WI, and MN).
