Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides assistance to the public and persons receiving agency services and investigates complaints where warranted.
- Receives inquiries and provides information, written and oral, to citizens, government agencies, and clients and their attorneys.
- Coordinates information releases with agency legal counsel.
- Maintains an inquiry log for the Department.
- Responsible for forwarding inquiries to the appropriate Divisions and offices for responses.
- Reviews and analyzes grievances appealed to the Commissioner from inmates, and drafts initial responses for the Deputy Commissioner of Adult Institutions and the Commissioner.
- Reviews and analyzes grievances filed by Offender in Adult Prisons as to ensure policy is being followed and looks at the grievances with an unbiased eye to formulate a response.
- Does research where necessary.
- Responsible for maintain a grievance log on appeals to the Commissioner and responsible for maintaining grievances for a set time period.
- Completes and files reports as required per policies/procedures.
- Compiles Annual and Monthly Grievance reports for the Commissioner.
- Attends meetings and trainings as required.
- Travel may be required.
- Responsible for conducting at a minimum an annual training with all Grievance coordinators and individual training for coordinators where warranted.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Five years of professional experience in administering juvenile justice, human services, or correctional programs.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree will substitute for up to two years of the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting. May be required to enter juvenile/adult facilities to conduct investigations.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
