THE POSITION

This position allows you to utilize your skills and experience to assist in auditing statutory compliance for a variety of restricted credit programs. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accountant 1, you will organize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate all financial transactions posted to corporate ledger accounts. Special emphasis will be placed on identifying errors with the original application of transactions, removal of unused restricted credits, reapplication or sale of restricted credits, incorrectly keypunched data, missing transactions, duplicate postings, inappropriate refunds, or no actions on the transfer of overpayment credit. You will be responsible for analyzing data edit failures and system generated work lists for compliance to programming initiatives, as well as auditing and evaluating the accuracy and efficiency of accounting methods and procedures to ensure compliance with division objectives, statutory requirements, or department regulations. Excellent communication skills are essential as you will be collaborating with other divisions, bureaus, and agencies to establish efficient and accurate workflow procedures regarding new or existing restricted credit programs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a 60-minute lunch or 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch, Monday - Friday.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, in-office training may be required. You will be required to report in-office one day per month. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Successful completion of the Commonwealth's Accounting Intern Program; or
  • One year as a Financial Programs Trainee; or
  • One year as a Fiscal Technician, and fifteen college credits in accounting; or
  • Five years of Bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within the REV Harrisburg Regional Office (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, or York counties). If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
