What are the responsibilities and job description for the Occupational Therapist- (Community) SY24-25 position at Community School?
QUALIFICATIONS
●Valid Occupational Therapist license from the MA Board of Registration of Allied Health Professionals
●Bachelor’s degree or higher and completion of an occupational therapy program accredited by AOTA
PREFERRED
●Experience working with students in a school setting with academic, behavioral, and/or emotional challenges, learning or developmental disabilities, or autism preferred.
REPORTS TO: Director of Therapy Services or his/her designee
RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Conduct student screenings and comprehensive evaluations related to the student’s access to the educational environment
including interpreting and clearly communicating results and recommendations
2.Participate in the IEP/504 process including team meetings
3.Design, utilize, and implement intervention plans based on established best practices and documented research-based
evidence
4.Intervene in in the least restrictive environment to support student participation and achievements, as appropriate
5.Evaluate and modify individual student interventions as necessary to address student needs and access to the educational environment and curriculum
6.Select, modify, or customize adaptive equipment and assistive technology to facilitate school access and participation
7.Adapt environments to facilitate student access and participation in the educational program
8.Report progress related to annual goals and objectives, and make appropriate modifications to interventions as needed
9.Implement various models of school-based service delivery such as Response to Intervention (RTI), consultation, group and individual services
10.Work effectively with diverse student populations
11.Consult with colleagues, school personnel, parents, and students
12.Coordinate with all specialists (PT, SLP, Teachers, Behavior, Adaptive PE, Assistive Technology Team) to provide a comprehensive service delivery program for each child.
13.Provide training and consultation for staff and families regarding OT services and interventions
14.Provide supervision for occupational therapy assistants, if applicable
15.Maintain accurate, timely documentation of occupational therapy services
16.Caseload assignment is based on SSEC needs, and may change at any time including location of service delivery.
17.Follow the direction of the program director/coordinator/principal where assigned including procedures and protocols
18.Schedule and prioritize assigned caseload
19.May require the use of a personal automobile for travel between school sites, home, and clinic visits
20.Physically manage and/or lift students when necessary.
21.Participate in all required in-service training
22.Follow all policies and procedures as established by the South Shore Educational Collaborative
23.Use de-escalation, protective measures, and physical management techniques (including lifting and moving) as prescribed in SSEC approved physical management training
programs when appropriate with students.
24.Maintain confidentiality regarding information for all SSEC staff, students, and their families.
25.Perform other duties as assigned by the program director/coordinator.
Mandatory participation in all of the following SSEC-sponsored training to include but not limited to:
1. Successful completion of SSEC-approved Welle training, full and/or recertification annually as appropriate.
2. Maintain active CPR/First Aid certification.
3. Successful completion of all SSEC-approved threat assessment training.
