Behavioral Health Peer Specialist

Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Share personal experiences of recovery while promoting effective coping strategies and recovery tools.
• Support individuals in recognizing their inherent resilience and potential.
• Facilitate connections for individuals with other consumers and the broader community.
• Assist individuals with mental illnesses and substance use disorders in developing a robust support network.
• Empower individuals to make independent decisions regarding their treatment and recovery journey.
• Participate as an integral member of the treatment team, providing input on client Wellness Plans and treatment strategies.
• Complete required training and fulfill responsibilities under supervision until achieving full certification.
• Provide transportation assistance to clients as clinically necessary.

Qualifications

• Must self-identify as a current or former consumer of behavioral health, substance use, or co-occurring disorder services.
• Completion of a state-approved training program is required.
• Successful passage of a standardized examination and completion of the certification process within 60 days of hire.
• Ongoing certification as a Certified Peer Specialist through the MCB (MO) must be maintained.
• High School diploma or GED is necessary.
• A valid driver's license and agency-specified automobile insurance coverage are required.
