Key Responsibilities
- Share personal experiences of recovery while promoting effective coping strategies and recovery tools.
- Support individuals in recognizing their inherent resilience and potential.
- Facilitate connections for individuals with other consumers and the broader community.
- Assist individuals with mental illnesses and substance use disorders in developing a robust support network.
- Empower individuals to make independent decisions regarding their treatment and recovery journey.
- Participate as an integral member of the treatment team, providing input on client Wellness Plans and treatment strategies.
- Complete required training and fulfill responsibilities under supervision until achieving full certification.
- Provide transportation assistance to clients as clinically necessary.
- Ability to convey lived experiences of recovery effectively.
- Strong communication skills and a service-oriented mindset.
- Competence in aiding individuals to identify their strengths and resources.
- Capability to engage collaboratively within a treatment team framework.
- Must self-identify as a current or former consumer of behavioral health, substance use, or co-occurring disorder services.
- Completion of a state-approved training program is required.
- Successful passage of a standardized examination and completion of the certification process within 60 days of hire.
- Ongoing certification as a Certified Peer Specialist through the MCB (MO) must be maintained.
- High School diploma or GED is necessary.
- A valid driver's license and agency-specified automobile insurance coverage are required.
