Key Responsibilities
- Share personal recovery experiences while promoting and supporting the use of effective recovery tools
- Encourage individuals to recognize their inherent strength and capacity for resilience
- Facilitate connections among individuals and between consumers and the broader community
- Assist those with mental health and substance use disorders in developing supportive networks
- Empower individuals to make informed choices and take an active role in their treatment
- Identify strengths and personal resources to aid individuals in setting and achieving recovery objectives
- Collaborate as an integral member of the treatment team, contributing insights to client Wellness Plans and treatment decisions
- Complete necessary trainings and certifications, while shadowing experienced staff until full certification is obtained
- Provide transportation assistance to clients as clinically indicated; driving is a key aspect of this role
- Ability to effectively share lived experiences of recovery
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Empathy and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders
- Capacity to assist individuals in setting and achieving recovery goals
- Ability to collaborate with a team and provide input on client Wellness Plans
- Valid driver’s license and compliance with agency-defined automobile coverage requirements
- Must self-identify as a current or former consumer of behavioral health, substance use, or co-occurring disorder services
- Completion of a state-approved training program, successful passage of a standardized examination, and achievement of certification as a Certified Peer Specialist within 60 days of hire
- High School Diploma or GED is required
