Job Purpose
Certified Peer Specialists are trained to assist their peers in the process of recovery, help build resilience, and provide hope that recovery is possible.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Applicable training and testing as required by the Department of Mental Health; be supervised by a qualified mental health professional as defined in the Code of State Regulations.
Core Job Duties
Collaborate with the Carter County BJA Grant Case Manager and Patient Navigator as part of the coordinated care team to ensure holistic support for individuals navigating recovery, legal, and healthcare systems.
Participate in weekly team meetings and case reviews to foster communication and alignment of care efforts.
Collect and document data on recovery outcomes and the effectiveness of peer support services.
Share Carter County BJA Grant-related data with the Project Coordinator and evaluator as requested.
Assist person served in their recovery.
Support, encourage, and model recovery and resilience from behavioral health disorders in ways that are specific to the needs of each individual.
Provide interventions such as sharing lived experiences of recovery, sharing and supporting the use of recovery tools.
Help person served recognize their capacity for resilience.
Help connect with other peers and their community at large.
Help develop a network for information and support.
Assist person served in making independent choices and being proactive in treatment.
Identify strengths and goals of person served.
Teach and model symptoms management skills, problem solving.
Use stages in recovery to promote self-determination.
Follow the Certified Peer Specialist Code of Ethics.
Adherence to all applicable evidence-based practice models.
Orally communicate information effectively and accurately.
Assure program operates within the constraints of the agency’s certification (CARF, DMH) standards and strategic plan related to clinical care.
Abide by program and agency policies and procedures.
Other job duties and special projects as assigned.
