Job description:
Employee will conduct a variety of basic biochemistry lab techniques and procedures that enable our company to continue supplying top quality reagents for complement research to scientists around the world. The scientific laboratory personnel must demonstrate an aptitude for acquiring knowledge and skills to perform his/her duties in an efficient manner.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Purification of proteins from human plasma or serum by following methodologies that involve basic laboratory procedures and techniques.
- Making serum from human plasma.
- Preparation of buffers, cells and reagents.
- Performance of column chromatography.
- Performing laboratory procedures and tests for tracking the protein during purification.
- Performing Quality Control (QC) on the purified protein using routine laboratory procedures such as protein assays, functional assays, SDS PAGE analysis, Western Blots, ELISA, double immuno-diffusion assays, and other routine laboratory tasks.
- Operating and maintaining standard laboratory equipment or apparatus, for example spectrophotometers, centrifuges, pipettors, pH meters, balances, water baths and fraction collectors and ensuring that the laboratory reagent stocks and supplies are re-stocked.
- Cleaning and maintaining work areas, lab instruments, glassware and equipment.
- Ffollowing laboratory safety procedures.
- Documenting work accurately and in detail, including procedures, observations, and results.
- Excellent record-keeping skills are required, along with basic math and computing skills.
- Performing simple mathematical calculations for making buffers, determining protein concentration, plotting graphs, etc.
- Analyzing experimental data and interpreting results.
- Summarizing the protein purification methods and results and reporting to supervisor.
- May require occasional work outside of regular Monday-Friday working hours
Performing other work and related tasks essential to keep the business running for example, shipping, learning new techniques, planning and managing time to improve efficiency, reliability and reproducibility of manufactured products
Educational Requirement
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate life science (Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemistry or Biology) with laboratory-based experience preferred.
Other Factors: This position requires the ability to follow directions. It also requires reliable attendance, trustworthiness, orderliness, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Good communication skills and the ability to interact with supervisors and co-workers in a professional manner are important.
Physical activities: Eye/hand coordination daily, use of laboratory equipment, use of lab chemicals and general office equipment.
Environmental demands: Potential exposure to laboratory chemicals, fumes, biohazardous materials and possible exposure to blood borne pathogens or other infectious materials. Must wear appropriate safety equipment.

Pay: $30,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
