Compost Crusader partners with residential & commercial locations to divert organic material from the landfill in an economical & environmentally sustainable way.

Position Summary:
The Event Coordinator will serve as point person for potential special event inquiries and oversee all aspects of event planning and management. These duties include meeting with customers to work out event details, visit (when possible) event locations to determine appropriate size, placement, and number of receptacles needed to maximize diversion efforts throughout the event. Creating an online compostable products line and making sure food vendors are compliant. Working with banquet halls, public venue space and others that cater to weddings and small to medium sized gatherings.
Essential Functions:
Communicate and sell the event services of Compost Crusader. Oversee all aspects of organics diversion and making sure food vendors are compliant with the compostable products we accept. Train and manage any volunteers or staff assisting in the event to maximize diversion efforts and minimize contamination. Be proactive in communicating to co-workers any observations made in the field that may assist in us better serving our customers. Document onboarding processes and executing of events in an effort to create protocols based on variables such as: material, event type, receptacle locations, number of attendees, etc. A post sort is needed either at the event or at the shop at a later time and event receptacles need to be cleaned out. From time to time you may need to utilize the NON CDL rear loading compost truck to collect and transfer material from larger events
Competency
- Customer service, conflict resolution, and events/training/sales experience
- High level of computer literacy (smart tablets, Microsoft and Google products) and willingness to learn new software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort with fast-paced environment
- Experience or willingness to learn how to either operate or work as a laborer/driver in a truck along a specified route to collect food scraps

Work environment
- Variability in work environment, from on-site in the company office, on-site event locations, and operating the company’s non-CDL trucks
Physical demands
- Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects over 50 pounds and standing for several hours at a time
- Work environment involves some exposure to physical risks such as moving mechanical parts, which requires following basic safety precautions.
- The employee is exposed to outside weather, including frequent wet and/or humid conditions, as well as exposure to fumes and vibration. Noise level is usually moderate.
Position type and expected hours of work
- This is up to full-time role, where hours are determined by the needs of the events being worked.
- Weekend and evening hours to execute event
- Coordinating details of event can be done at shop or at home
Travel
- Some overnight travel expected with occasional events in Madison and Chicago. Up to 90% local travel around Milwaukee and surrounding area.
Required education and qualifications
- Completion of high school or GED supplemented by Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school.
- Preferred: two (2) years’ experience working in an events environment including experience with supervision and responsibility for volunteer management, customer relations, and training.
- Valid Wisconsin State driver's license.
