Overview:
Ground Support Equipment Mechanic operates and drives all types of aviation ground support equipment – motorized and non-motorized. Conducts regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on ground support equipment, including but not limited to tow
tractors, diesel engines, generators, and air conditioning units and maintenance stands.
Duties:
- Perform scheduled maintenance tasks, including fluid changes, filter replacements, belt adjustments, and tire rotations.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in accordance with manufacturer guidelines, industry standards, and safety regulations. Overhaul and rebuild engines, transmissions, and other major components to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, parts used, and hours spent on each task. Coordinate with program teams to effectively prioritize and complete repair jobs in a timely manner to minimize equipment downtime.
- Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements related to ground support equipment maintenance and repair.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues. Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and external vendors to coordinate repairs, procure parts, and resolve any technical issues. Where applicable, fuel equipment as necessary with full regard for all safety and environmental requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools and test equipment to repair ground support vehicles and equipment.
- Technicians must be able to achieve cross training to be able to work on the equipment required under programs and be able to maintain the equipment.
- Technicians must have the ability to train personnel on the safety and use of ground support vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to read repair manuals for various types of ground support vehicles and equipment.
- Excellent mechanical repair skills.
- Experience with military standard maintenance practices.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- At least five (5) years of hands-on experience as a Ground Support Equipment Mechanic, preferably in the aviation industry, performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs to aircraft powered and non-powered support equipment.
- Proficient computer skills in using maintenance management systems and software for record-keeping and inventory management.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Completion of a formal training program in automotive or heavy equipment mechanics, or equivalent work experience.
- Must be able to lift / pull / push equipment over 50lbs.
- Must be willing and able to work with job required hazardous materials.
- Must be able to safely operate a forklift, crane and manlifts.
- Must be able to crawl under, climb over, and push equipment to perform repairs.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, stand for prolonged periods of time, climb steps, ladders and/or service stands.
- Willing to travel when necessary to support program requirements.
