Job Summary: Provides a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that will provide for social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs and assists in guiding parents toward interaction and care of children in the program.
Education & Experience: An Associate’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education, equivalent coursework, or otherwise meet the requirements of section 648A9a)(3)(B) of the Act, is required. Prefer two (2) years’ experience serving child populations in the areas of child development, early childhood education, principals of child health, safety and nutrition, adult learning principals, and family dynamics. Prefer experience working with children and families, in Native American/Alaskan Native Communities.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
A. Knows and implements the Head Start Performance Standards.
B. Plans developmentally appropriate curriculum for children and for parent/child interaction times at home and school. Plans curriculum two weeks in advance.
C. Prepares and keeps records according to Head Start standards. Maintains accurate developmental records and works within the timelines of the Early Learning Program.
D. Establishes communications with parents, children and staff.
E. Plans and executes Center activities, work responsibilities, and health care issues in collaboration with staff and families.
F. Observes and monitors behaviors of parents, children, and/or parent-child interactions during the program day.
G. Treats children, parents, and staff of all races, religions, family backgrounds and cultures equally.
H. Assesses the social, intellectual, emotional, and physical needs of children according to the Head Start Performance Standards and develops child-centered and adult directed educational activities and curriculum for the Early Learning Program.
I. Maintains a healthy and safe environment.
J. Helps children deal with anger, sadness, and frustration by comforting, identifying, and reflecting feelings and helping children use words to solve their problems.
K. Uses positive approaches to help children behave constructively.
L. Encourages independence in children, as they are ready.
M. Maintains comprehensive child attendance record to include family contact for when a child misses four days.
N. Interacts and maintains positive relations with supervisors, co-workers, parents, and children.
O. Acts as a reporting agent regarding issues of child abuse and neglect and communicates any concerns with the Education & Development Director and Family Services Coordinator.
P. Interacts with the children showing interest and concern. Meets children at eye level.
Q. Maintains accurate records and performs home visits and parent conferences per program year with documentation.
R. Attends weekly planning meetings, staff meetings and in-services training as assigned.
S. Participates in educational, professional, and personal improvement classes/trainings/conferences as assigned.
T. Participates in Head Start/Early Head Start Self-Assessment and the Community Needs Assessment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.24 per hour
