Under general supervision the Cardiac Sonographer will perform, analyze, and interpret comprehensive, complex diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures such as Transthoracic Echo, Treadmill and Dobutamine Stress Echo, and assist physicians with Transesophageal Echo (TEE) procedures on patients referred for evaluation of suspected or known heart disease, post-operative evaluation of surgical therapy, or placement of cardiac prosthetic devices. The Cardiac Sonographer will tailor examination as necessary to provide accurate representation of cardiac anatomy and pathology throughout examination; monitor patient’s vital signs and condition during examination; measure cardiac structures and blood flow throughout the heart; and complete preliminary report for the reading cardiologist.

Responsibilities
Independently perform high-quality, professional level, complex diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations adhering to the Echo Lab policies and procedures and the American Society of Echocardiography standards and guidelines.Determine diagnostic parameters and adjust imaging as needed throughout the exam to acquire accurate images of cardiac anatomy, pathophysiological data, and blood flow analysis relative to patient’s clinical presentation, review of previous imaging studies, and relevant cardiac history.Provide real-time assessment of image quality to adjust imaging protocols and to determine the need for and utilize echo contrast / ultrasound enhancing agents, agitated saline “bubble” studies, 3-D quantification, Myocardial Strain Imaging, and other specialized imaging techniques following established lab protocols and American Society of Echocardiography standards and guidelines.Perform echocardiographic studies in the Cath Lab to provide imaging to guide pericardiocentesis and to evaluate TAVR valve placement.Provide Treadmill Stress Echo, Dobutamine Stress Echo imaging as a part of the cardiac stress testing team, including, pharmacological viability and valve stress echocardiograms.Assist the physician in the performance of 2-D and 3-D Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE) and other special procedures.Perform accurate measurements and calculations on acquired images, adhering to established lab protocols for pathology identified during exam.Summarize and enter patient history, exam measurements, and other relevant data as necessary in order to complete an accurate preliminary assessment of cardiac structures and function to be sent to the reading cardiologist for final interpretation and reporting.Recognize and alert the attending reading cardiologist of critical findings requiring immediate attention.Provide excellent patient care consistent with professional practice standards published by the American Society of Echocardiography and adhering to all Confluence Health policies and procedures.Contribute to the professional development of self, peers, and others through participation in departmental meetings, training, peer review and case presentations as required for professional development and IAC lab accreditation.Demonstrate excellent communication skills with physicians, colleagues and support staff to promote best quality patient care.Participate in the training and orientation of cardiac sonographer students completing clinical internships.Paid travel to remote clinic sites up to two hours away.Equitable On-call rotations.Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.|Other duties as assigned.Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
Qualifications
Required :
Current Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential from ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential from CCI.Current BLS certification.Valid state driver’s license and reliable vehicle transportation.Desired :
Previous experience as an Adult or Pediatric Echocardiographer, Echo Tech, or Cardiac Sonographer.New graduates encouraged to apply and will participate in 6-month echocardiography preceptorship / mentorship program.
