In this part-time role. you will be integral to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting overall operations of our organization. Reporting to the Executive Director, you will use your core skills in accounting/bookkeeping, along with expertise in QuickBooks, to manage accounts payable and receivable, assist with budgeting, process donations, and prepare monthly financial statements. Your strong communication, time management, and organizational skills will be essential in coordinating office functions and supporting fundraising efforts. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Process donations, enter in donor software and QuickBooks, and prepare donation acknowledgement letters to donors.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Assist with budgeting and financial forecasting and enter budget into QuickBooks.
  • Support preparation for annual audits and provide all necessary documentation.
  • Manage day-to-day administrative tasks to support organizational operations.
  • Manage invoicing and grant billing, ensuring timely submission and compliance with funder requirements.
  • Prepare required year-end documentation.
  • Prepare weekly e-file to external bookkeeper of all donations received and invoices to be paid.
  • Provide staff support for Board of Directors and committees.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to fundraising staff and fundraising events.

Skills and Competencies

  • Educational Background: Associate’s degree (bachelor's degree preferred) in accounting, finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Professional Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience, ideally within a nonprofit organization.
  • Technical Experience: Proficient in QuickBooks, Excel, Microsoft Word, Zoom, Outlook, and databases. Capable of adapting to new technologies as required. Experience with donor software a plus.
  • Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues.
  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks efficiently.
  • Interest in farms and farmland preservation a plus.

Travel

This position requires some local travel for meetings and events approximately 7-8 times/year. All work travel is reimbursed. A majority of work will be conducted in CFT’s office in Hartford. Some remote work may be possible.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay: $25-$35/hour based on experience.

Benefits: Paid vacation, sick, and personal time, employer retirement match after 6 months, and paid short-term disability.
