Wage Range: $50,000 - $65,000
Summary
Serving more than 300,000 adults and children each year, the Connecticut Science Center is the state’s premier destination for informal science learning, a top tourist attraction, a hub for teacher training, and one of the state’s foremost resources for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The Development Department leads and implements the Science Center’s fundraising strategies and activities to secure the funding and relationships necessary to support its sustainability and growth. The Grants Manager is responsible for cultivating and stewarding vital, long-term relationships with foundations, government entities, and other constituents. Contributes to the success of the Connecticut Science Center’s ambitious goals for donated income using thoughtful analytical skills, attention to detail, outstanding communications skills, and a hard work ethic with a variety of fundraising assignments from institutional funders. The Grants Manager also plays a pivotal role with internal constituents, particularly Programs, to develop funding requests and other materials, as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Writes and prepares grant-related submissions including but not limited to letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports for foundations, corporations, and government entities. Works collaboratively to develop persuasive language and documentation that results in successful grant awards for a variety of identified Science Center initiatives with an overall fundraising goal in excess of $1M annually.
- Serves as the primary relationship officer for key institutional relationships, including communication, reporting, and face-to-face contacts. Grows these relationships into strategic partnerships to meet department, organizational, and mission goals.
- Plays a leadership role internally to identify, shepherd, and realize opportunities for mission-based work that can be appropriately funded.
- Identifies new local and national partnerships that will realize funding or advocacy benefit for the Science Center and subsequently qualify and grow these relationships.
- Serves as team member and collaborator on funded/to-be-funded pilot projects with Programs, Marketing, and other internal departments. Programs include but are not limited to educational initiatives, seasonal programs, and audience building.
