About the Role
The Conservation Technician position is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our mission of preserving natural areas and promoting environmental stewardship.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of our vegetation management crew, working to control invasive plants in various settings.
- Collaborate with the restoration team to propagate native seedlings and collect seeds, enhancing habitat restoration and biodiversity.
- Work closely with the biosecurity team to conduct inspections and monitor field sites, ensuring effective prevention and mitigation strategies.
- Participate in surveys to detect trees infected by Ceratocystis (Rapid Ohia Death).
- Contribute to data entry and spatial mapping efforts, maintaining accurate records of treatment and control work.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Ability to hike on remote and rugged terrain, carrying a 50-pound backpack and camping up to five nights in backcountry settings.
- Willingness to use chemical pesticides and herbicides while following safety guidelines.
- Effective communication skills, enabling collaboration with supervisors and coworkers.
- Pass a background check, including fingerprinting and AmeriCorps background checks.
- Age 18 or older and a US Citizen.
