We are looking for a compassionate, energetic Youth Respite Provider to support a lively young boy with non-verbal autism. The ideal candidate will be patient, engaging, and skilled in creating a fun and enriching environment. Comfort with alternative communication methods, such as using a word board, is essential. This role requires flexibility, creativity, and a positive, patient approach to help make the child's day enjoyable and meaningful.
Respite is provided in the child's home.
Compensation:
$17.66 per hour
Schedule:
Saturdays from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one care and supervision for an energetic young boy with non-verbal autism.
- Assist with communication using a word board and other alternative communication methods.
- Ensure the child’s safety and well-being during indoor and outdoor activities.
- Engage the child in high-energy, fun, and age-appropriate activities, including games, sports, walks, or recreational activities.
- Assist with personal care, including toileting, while maintaining the child’s dignity.
- Offer consistent encouragement to foster the child’s skills, confidence, and interests.
- Monitor the child’s behavior, responding with patience, adaptability, and understanding.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for activities.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children, especially those with autism or developmental disabilities.
- Comfortable using communication tools like a word board or other augmentative communication methods.
- High-energy and proactive, with the ability to engage in physical activities with the child.
- Able to assist with personal care in a respectful and dignified manner.
- Patient, flexible, and understanding in responding to the child’s needs.
- Ability to create a calm and supportive environment in energetic situations.
- Experience with non-verbal children or those with communication challenges is preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain certification).
Requirements:
- Must pass a caregiver/criminal background check.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
