The Child-Friendly Space in Disasters (CFS-D) Coordinator will oversee the setup, operation, and supervision of a safe and welcoming area for children displaced by disasters, such as the Los Angeles fires. This role includes managing staff and volunteers, ensuring high-quality care, and facilitating activities that promote children’s emotional and physical well-being. The CFS-D Coordinator will also coordinate with other shelter services to support families effectively.


Note: This position is contingent upon the continuation of shelter operations and funding. Background checks will be conducted for selected candidates.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Management:
  • Design and implement daily schedules, activities, and routines within the Child-Friendly Space.
  • Ensure the CFS operates in accordance with child protection and safety standards.

Staff and Volunteer Oversight:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise CFS staff and volunteers.
  • Assign tasks and provide ongoing support to the team.

Child Safety and Well-Being:
  • Ensure a secure and nurturing environment for children of all aes.
  • Monitor children’s emotional and physical well-being, addressing any concerns promptly.

Activities Coordination:
  • Develop age-appropriate educational and recreational activities.
  • Collaborate with educators, counselors, and parents to tailor activities to children’s needs.

Resource Management:
  • Manage supplies, materials, and equipment needed for the CFS.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment.

Communication and Reporting:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and caregivers using the CFS.
  • Report any incidents or issues to the Shelter Coordinator.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and activity logs.

Collaboration:
  • Work closely with shelter services, mental health professionals, and external agencies to provide holistic support to families.
  • Assist in coordinating referrals to additional resources as needed.
  • Liaising with appropriate government agencies, such as Child Services when needed.
  • Liaising with partners to do specific programming for children (music, recreational, etc)


Qualifications:
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Social Work, Education, or a related field is preferred.

Experience:
  • At least 3 years of experience in program management, childcare, or related fields.
  • Experience working with children in crisis or trauma-informed care is strongly preferred.

Skills:
  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for working with children.

Attributes:
  • Compassionate, adaptable, and resourceful in high-stress environments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and families.


Working Conditions:
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must be comfortable working in a temporary shelter environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and engage in physical activities with children.

$20 - $20 an hour
In accordance with CA law, the expected pay range for this CA position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
