For over 50 years, COA’s mission has been to enrich the lives of our most vulnerable elderly citizens by providing needed services that allow them to remain safely in their own homes. Thousands of clients each year receive services such as personal care, meal preparation, housekeeping, companionship and Meals on Wheels. COA also manages Senior Activity Centers, and neighborhood meal sites throughout Volusia County.

The Director of Development provides results-driven leadership to increase immediate and long-term support of COA. This position is responsible for creating programs and initiatives related to donor relations, fundraising efforts and programs advancing the mission and vision of COA. Additionally, this person will develop and execute marketing, branding, public relations, and communications strategies to internal and external audiences, proactively identifying and promoting services and programs to enhance COA’s image among key audiences.

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Create and execute department strategies with clearly defined goals, objectives, timeframes and metrics in consult with the Co-Executive Directors and senior administration.

- Responsible to communicate COA’s mission, vision and goals to donors and prospective donors to develop and sustain individual, corporate and business relations and gifts.

- Collaborate internally and externally regarding department initiatives to link programs with philanthropic opportunities.

- Establish and maintain community relations by serving on selected committees, boards or other related group activities to promote COA and its programs; represent COA professionally at all internal and external events.

- Conduct ongoing strategic assessment of existing philanthropic strengths and opportunities and plans for long-term growth and success.

- Remain current in developments within philanthropy and fund development, and inform the Co-Executive Directors, the fundraising committee and the BOD on current trends, issues, problems and activities.

- Manage proactive and reactive media strategy, including crisis communications.

- Serve in an advisory capacity for the planning and execution of major and special events and activities that will create a favorable image of COA.

- Manage department budget and personnel; including evaluating departmental structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness as well as provide individuals with professional and personal growth.

- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintaining accountability standards to donors and ensuring compliance with the code of ethics of professional conduct for fundraising executives.

- Oversee marketing and communications activities, ensuring they are appropriately donor-centered and conducive to garnering support for COA.

- Serve as chief editor. Write, edit and/or review content for all print and digital formats, including the newsletter. Make daily writing and editing assignments. Oversee the writing, review and editing of copy. Make final decisions regarding content and copy for college electronic and printed publications.

- Cultivate relationships with local, regional and national media representatives to build opportunities for COA.

- Oversee volunteer coordination and assist to identify, cultivate, recruit and develop fundraising volunteers and leadership.

- Design educational programs in fund development for staff and volunteers.

EXPERIENCE IN THE AREAS OF:

*Research & cultivation practices

*Standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitations, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation and direct mail.

*Operational expertise in development office management, gift processing, prospect and honor histories and fundraising reporting.

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field required, Master’s degree preferred; and seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrable success in major gift fund-raising including donor cultivation and solicitation with strong supervisory and team development skills.

Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
