What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office - Advocate Trainee Victim Witness Program position at County of Cumberland?
The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking one Advocate Trainee, Victim-Witness Program to learn how to provide services to victims, witnesses, and the families to cope with the financial and emotional problems as a result of becoming a crime victim or witness. Additionally, the Advocate Trainee would learn how to provide assistance during court procedures, provide social service referrals and other related duties as described below.
Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Duties: Under the close supervision of the Victim Witness Coordinator, learns how to review cases with victims and witnesses; learns how to accompany victims and witnesses to court to provide support and resolving issues; learns how to provide referrals for needed services such as counseling, social services and self-help groups; learns how to respond to questions or concerns regarding the criminal justice procedures, rules, regulations and the New Jersey Crime Victim’s Bill of Rights; learns how to provide assistance to victims to prepare and deliver victim impact statements; learns how to provide assistance to victims in the completion of the Victims of Crime Compensation Office application; participates in public speaking engagements or community events to educate the public on the purpose and the existence of the unit; prepares reports; learns and utilizes various types of electronic and manual information systems; assists in preparing informational brochures; establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with those interested and/or involved in the work of the program; maintains essential records and files; be on-call on a rotating basis; performs other related duties as required.
Advancement: Appointees who successfully complete the twelve (12) month training period will be eligible for advancement to the Advocate, Victim-Witness Program title in accordance with New Jersey Civil Service procedures. The inability of an employee in this trainee title to attain a level of performance warranting advancement to Advocate, Victim-Witness Program shall be considered cause for separation.
Requirements: Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey.
