Description
This position performs legal work in the enforcement of laws; prosecutes criminal cases as assigned by the District Attorney; advises the general public and law enforcement officers on criminal matters; and does related work as required. The position is at-will, temporary, part-time, and scheduled for twenty-four (24) hours per week.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Reviews and prepares asset forfeiture cases.
- Researches and reviews laws as they impact cases pending.
- Meets and negotiates with defense attorneys on cases as needed.
- Prepares briefs and legal opinions; appears in court to prosecute cases; participates in preliminary hearings.
- Orders investigations and subpoenas; reviews search warrants; supervises and assists with case investigations.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the ability to present statements of fact and argument clearly and logically in written and oral form, they will also be able to work cooperatively with the public and law enforcement agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE:
Five years of responsible criminal legal work.
EDUCATION:
Current membership in the State Bar of California.
Benefits
SICK LEAVE:
Up to 24 hours per year of paid sick leave. Up to 48 hours of paid sick leave maximum accrual.
SHORT TERM DISABILITY:
The County coordinates with State Disability Insurance for regular employees.
RETIREMENT:
The County is in the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) which is coordinated with Social Security. Unused accrued sick leave can be converted to service credit at retirement. This applies only to PSE’s who work more than 1,000 hours in a fiscal year.
