seasonal Horticulture Trial Project Assistant
to work with the UW-Extension Office
located at the Kenosha County Center in Bristol.

2025 Rate of Pay: $20.00 per hour
This seasonal position is responsible for performing skilled/manual work functions related to the maintenance and operations of arboretum, small fruits, orchard, vegetable garden, and dwarf woody plants at the Kenosha County Center (KCC). This position requires physical ability to install and maintain various horticulture projects. We are looking for someone self-motivated with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, organize, and execute day-to-day tasks in a timely manner.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time, seasonal position for the months of April through October, 2025.
A maximum of 475 hours in the season will be offered.
Work hours are flexible, Monday through Friday, between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Hours are dependent on weather and project plan.
Position Summary and Job Duties
Provide manual labor functions related to planting and maintenance of trees at KCC arboretum (digging holes, watering, pruning, staking, mulching, weeding)
Assist in maintenance of tree fruits and small fruit trial garden including mulching, watering, weeding, training, and pruning
Maintain vegetable trial garden, to include watering, mulching, staking, and timely harvest
Install plant signages and labels on all horticulture trial projects
Maintain a track record of plant species in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet
Harvest and collect the yield/growth data – small fruits, vegetable crops, and ornamental trees
Maintain upkeep of the arboretum trail and dispose trash on a timely basis
Perform other duties as required or assigned
Success Factors
Knowledge of landscape plants and gardening
Knowledge and experience in installing landscape projects
Ability to work with people
Ability to communicate orally and in writing
Knowledge of basic computer usage
Job Requirements, Education, Training and Experience
Must be at least 18 years old at time of application
Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Must have access to transportation adequate to fulfill position responsibilities
