Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) is seeking a talented MOLECULAR BIOLOGY/GENETICS TECHNICIAN to join our Genidaqs Laboratory in West Sacramento, CA!

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Extract DNA from a variety of sample types and perform PCR and Quantitative PCR (qPCR)
- Conduct laboratory work under supervision for diverse projects
- Perform work in the field that may require physical exertion (e.g., eDNA or tissue collection) and taking measurements of individual specimens
- Operate and trailer boats for field activities
- Manage logistics such as equipment purchasing and shipping
- Perform animal necropsy on fish for collection of stomach contents
- Assist in general laboratory supply inventory, upkeep, and purchasing
- Assist in database and sample management
- Conduct research and development into new technologies and lab techniques
- Lead field crews: deal with the logistics of field days and ensure that samples/data are collected properly
- Conduct lab work in a safe and efficient manner
- Train new employees on how to correctly perform required field and lab techniques
- Assists in project management including in-field sample collection coordination and logistics, lab workflow and efficiency, and generation of data and deliverables for clients
- Perform other duties as assigned
CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
- Molecular Biology: Ability to independently perform PCR, qPCR, and DNA sequencing. The ability to perform basic molecular techniques on the bench.
- Sample and Data Processing Skills: Demonstrate the ability to collect and process samples using sterile technique. Clearly communicate the concept and reasoning for utilizing sterile technique to colleagues and co-workers. Comfortable with basic math and analyzing standard data sets. Familiar with the use of pipettes.
- Field/Lab Sampling Skills: Demonstrated ability to work alone or as part of a team collecting, recording, and synthesizing a variety of high-quality data sets from laboratory or field projects and experiments.
- Trailering/Boating: Experience in trailering and operating boats safely in a variety of water bodies and conditions.
- Applied science balance: Demonstrated expertise and passion about science, natural resources and providing useable information for resolving complex problems.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Advance molecular biology techniques and genetic analysis
- Environmental science experience including freshwater ecology and fisheries
- Data recording, data management experience.
- California boat operator card
EDUCATION/MINIMUM QUALIFICATONS:
- Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, Genetics, or related science degree, two years of related experience, or a combination of undergraduate education and related experience
- Proficient with MS Office Suite, including Access
- Demonstrated skills in data collection, entry, and analysis, developing graphs and communicating project methods and findings in presentations and reports
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to work for long periods in the laboratory environment. Possible long periods of computerized data analysis in an office environment
- Ability to work irregular hours (including weekends and evenings) in various kinds of weather and potentially rugged terrain on occasion
- Ability to work effectively in inclement weather, including hot, cold, rain and fog conditions
- Ability to be comfortable working in the aquatic environment including working from a boat platform, swimming and wading in rivers, streams, and lakes
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to travel as needed - field work may require extended travel to remote areas for 2-3 days at a time and able to drive safely in a variety of weather conditions for extended distances.
COMPENSATION:
- Salary: $21.00 - $27.00/hour (dependent on experience)
