What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kayak Tour Guide position at Crater Lake Zipline?

Embark on an Epic Summer Adventure as a Kayaking Guide with Crater Lake Zipline!

Are you ready to turn your summer into an unforgettable journey? At Crater Lake Zipline, we’re searching for passionate and adventurous individuals to join our team as Kayaking Guides. This isn’t just a job—it’s your chance to spend the season exploring the serene beauty of Spring Creek and Malone Springs Wildlife Refuge, leading guests through calm, pristine waters by day and under the stars during our magical sunset and full moon paddles. If you love the outdoors, enjoy connecting with people, and want a summer filled with fun, growth, and breathtaking views, this is the perfect role for you!

Why This Job is More Than Just a Summer Gig

  • Build a Standout Resume: This role is your ticket to developing skills that will make you shine in any career. You’ll master leadership, public speaking, and teamwork—all while working independently and as part of an amazing crew. These are the kinds of experiences that employers love, and you’ll gain them in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable.
  • Live the Adventure: Picture yourself guiding guests through tranquil waters as the sun dips below the horizon or under the soft glow of a full moon. You’ll be the one creating those “wow” moments, sharing fascinating stories about the area’s wildlife, history, and geology, and making every trip a memory to cherish.
  • Safety is Part of the Thrill: As a Kayaking Guide, you’re not just leading tours—you’re ensuring every guest has a safe, enjoyable experience. You’ll become a pro at risk management, water rescues, and outdoor safety, all while keeping the vibe fun and relaxed. Don’t worry—we’ll teach you everything you need to know.
  • Join a Crew of Adventure Lovers: You’ll be part of a tight-knit team that’s all about creating epic experiences. Work with like-minded people who share your passion for the outdoors, and make friends (and memories) that will last long after the season ends.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading unforgettable kayak tours on the calm, crystal-clear waters of Spring Creek and Malone Springs Wildlife Refuge.
  • Teaching guests the basics of paddling and ensuring their safety on the water.
  • Sharing fun and engaging stories about the area’s rich history, wildlife, and geology.
  • Mastering water rescues and handling any unexpected situations with confidence.
  • Keeping gear and equipment in top shape for every adventure.
  • Teaming up with your crew to prep and wrap up each tour, making sure every detail is perfect.
  • Driving safely to and from paddling spots pulling a gear trailer.

No Experience? No Problem!

We’ve got your back with flexible class sessions starting in April, May, or June—pick the one that fits your schedule! Our comprehensive guide school will teach you everything from safety protocols to storytelling techniques, so you’ll be ready to lead like a pro. Plus, you’ll be supported by our experienced team every step of the way.

What We’re Looking For

  • A positive attitude and a love for adventure.
  • Great communication skills and a knack for making people feel at ease.
  • A commitment to safety and professionalism (we’ll help you get there!).
  • The ability to work long hours, including weekends, and handle the physical demands of the job.
  • Strong swimming skills, the ability to lift and load kayaks and a love for kayaking.
  • A valid First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to get one before starting).
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old by June 30 of the season they’re applying for.

Preferred but not required: Experience in guiding, outdoor recreation, or education—bring it if you’ve got it, but we’re happy to train the right person!

Job Details

  • Season: April through October (flexible for full-time students).
  • Training: Choose from sessions starting in April, May, or June.
  • Uniforms: We provide staff shirts; you bring the professional energy.
  • Housing and Transportation: Not provided, so plan ahead!

Note: While we’re called Crater Lake Zipline, our kayaking tours take place on the calm waters of Spring Creek and Malone Springs Wildlife Refuge—not at Crater Lake itself.
