The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation is a non-profit, volunteer-fueled organization whose mission is to cure Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and improve the quality of life for the children and adults affected by these diseases. Our work is dramatically accelerating the research process through our varied research initiatives; we also provide extensive educational and support resources for patients and their families, medical professionals, and the public. In addition, we lead federal and state-based advocacy campaigns to support medical research funding and improve patient access to care. Position Summary:
The Associate Executive Director provides professional leadership and staff management to the chapter. This includes partnering with leadership volunteers to harness their passion and skills and to help maximize what they have to offer to advance the mission of the Foundation. The Associate Executive Director supports individual and foundation major gift by focusing on prospecting and leads event fundraising and other revenue and will cultivate partnerships and alliances that will promote growth and awareness in the community.
This is a hybrid role with 2 days/week in the office and 3 days remote work.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Board/Volunteer Engagement
- In partnership with Regional Executive Director, chapter staff and Senior Vice President, create a bold vision for aggressive growth in the chapter and develop a robust, engaging strategy for key stakeholders/volunteers.
- Work directly with Chapter President and Board of Directors to ensure an engaged and impactful board.
- Lead or participate in key volunteer leadership asks and progress meetings.
- Build community with all IBD stakeholders (patients, caregivers, health care professionals, corporate, etc.) and drive awareness through marketing and communications.
- Work with leadership volunteers and committees to identify, recruit and engage volunteers who have potential to make an impact.
- Build strong and effective partnerships with volunteers and supporters and help foster a culture of accountability.
- Serve as a key leader in your market area building relationships, raising awareness, and sharing mission impact with constituents.
- Partner with and provide comprehensive support to volunteer committees to drive success in campaigns and grow support for our mission.
- Reporting & Analytics: Monitor effectiveness and impact of campaigns and provide recommendations for future initiatives. Manage program reporting and analytics in each area of responsibility.
Events/Fundraising
- Collaboration, cultivation, identification, and recruitment of revenue partners to maximize impact on special events and other fundraising campaigns.
- Execute best practices and fundraising techniques to meet revenue targets through special events, Take Steps and other chapter activities.
- Support Take Steps and Special Events’ key activities including top team retention, volunteer leadership recruitment and development, securing honorees and honored heroes and top-level sponsorships as needed.
- Responsible for identifying local major gift prospects and for collaborating with national advancement team and Regional Executive Director.
- In partnership with the Take Steps staff, help to identify volunteer walk leadership and corporate sponsorship.
- Implement the cultivation, solicitation, follow-up and recognition process for individual, corporate and foundation participation, and donations.
- Maintain accurate and complete records and files for fundraising events, programs, and activities.
- Collaborate with regional chapters to minimize risk and leverage opportunities for growth across the region and organization.
Communications
- Partner with other regional leaders on acquisition, fundraising activities and priorities.
- Coordinate marketing and promotion for fundraising events, programs, and activities.
- Partner with media outlets and cultivate relationships to maximize awareness of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation brand.
- Participate in enterprise-wide activities such as gastroenterology clinic visits, donor events, major education events, special events, Take Steps walk(s) and any other chapter-wide activities.
Team Leadership
- Partner with regional leadership and facilitate enterprise-wide thinking with staff, volunteers and across the region.
- Provide leadership to chapter staff by facilitating communication across functional areas.
- Supervise chapter staff to maximize ROI through fundraising competencies, best practices, critical success factors and KPIs.
- Lead chapter staff hiring, training, development, retention, and vacancy planning.
- Maintain communication with regional and national leadership.
Administration
- Direct administration of chapter financials, budget, and operational plans.
- Manage day to day operations in the chapter.
- Lead chapter budget and forecasting process in chapter, managing revenue and expenses and KPI/data input and assessment.
- Drive a financial ratio margin to meet overall chapter performance guidelines.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree preferred.
- 7 years of experience in not-for-profit fundraising.
- Demonstrated track record of successful fundraising experience that includes events, corporate/foundation giving, donor cultivation, public relations and/or stewardship.
- Previous experience in the identifying, recruiting, and partnering with volunteers to achieve results.
- Proven and applicable skills in strategic thinking, committee leadership, account management and volunteer development.
- Three years or more management experience in directly supervising staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
