    Primary Purpose: The Quinnite School Network (QSN) Middle School SEL Counselor is a dedicated professional responsible for fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment through the implementation of SEL strategies and programs. This role emphasizes the development of students' emotional intelligence, resilience, and interpersonal skills while also equipping educators with the tools and strategies necessary to integrate SEL practices into the classroom. The SEL Coach will collaborate with school leaders, teachers, counselors, and families to cultivate a culture of empathy, well-being, and academic success.

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:
    • Degree in counseling, social-work, Child-development, education, or a related field (required).

    Major Responsibilities and Duties: • Implement and Support SEL Initiatives: Develop and execute school-wide SEL strategies that align with best practices and the school's mission. Create and implement embedded SEL lessons across all grade levels.Coordinate and organize community partners to support SEL instruction and guidance for students.
    • Teacher Coaching & Professional Development:Train and mentor teachers in integrating SEL competencies into instruction and classroom management. Provide conflict resolution training to teachers.
    • Student Engagement & Support: Provide one-on-one counseling for students experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges. Facilitate restorative circles between teachers, parents, and students to resolve conflicts and strengthen relationships. Provide mediation for students struggling with conflict resolution.
    • Crisis Prevention & Intervention: Provide crisis interventions related to grief, trauma, or family emergencies.Conduct suicide risk assessments and ensure appropriate interventions.
    • Data-Driven Decision-Making: Use qualitative and quantitative data to assess the effectiveness of SEL programs and inform continuous improvement.
    • Family & Community Engagement: Partner with parents, guardians, and community organizations to extend SEL practices beyond the classroom.Provide or connect families with community resources to ensure basic needs are met (e.g., food, shelter, medical care, clothing, school supplies).
    • Trauma-Informed Practices: Promote awareness and application of trauma-informed approaches to support students’ mental and emotional well-being. Support students who have experienced trauma by creating a safe, responsive school culture.



    Competencies,Qualifications & Skills
    • Degree in counseling, social-work, Child-development, education, or a related field (required).
    • Experience working with middle school students, especially in Social Emotional Learning and academic support.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills to engage students, families, and educators.
    • Passion for guiding students toward informed and ambitious futures.
    • Social Emotional Intelligence - Demonstrate a deep understanding of SEL principles, emotional, self-awareness, resilience, self-regulation, and interpersonal skills. • Instructional Leadership - Support teachers in embedding SEL into their curriculum and teaching practices.
    • Collaborative Leadership & Relationship Building - Cultivate strong relationships with students, staff, and families to create a safe and supportive school culture.
    • Data-Driven Decision Making - Analyze SEL-related data to guide program improvements and interventions.
    • Trauma-Informed Practices - Understand and implement strategies that support students who have experienced trauma.
    • Communication & Advocacy - Effectively convey the importance of SEL to all stakeholders and advocate for students’ social-emotional needs.

    Direct Areas of Oversight & Responsibility
    • Implement and monitor school-wide SEL programs
    • Staff Professional Learning on SEL & Restorative Practices
    • Student Behavior & Intervention Strategies
    • Collaboration with Counselors & Support Staff
    • Parent & Family SEL Workshops
    • Data Collection & Program Evaluation
    • Working with Homeless and At-Risk Students, Attendance Support • Student Mentorship & Peer Leadership Programs
    • Crisis Response & Emotional Support Planning
    • Conduct suicide risk assessments and ensure appropriate interventions and referrals Time Allocation:
    • 80% of time focused on SEL program duties, student engagement, teacher coaching, and family/community involvement.
    • 20% or less dedicated to program planning, scheduling and school support.

    Other:

    Perform any and all duties as assigned.
    Successfully advance district initiatives.


    Salary:
    $62,810 – $74,315
    • Salary determination will be based on verified relevant work experience.
    • Salary will be adjusted to start date.
    Program Stipend:
    • Stipends include additional days during the program academic year as outlined in the stipend agreement.
    • ***STIPENDS ARE GRANT FUNDED***
    • FUTURE FUNDING IS BASED UPON THE AVAILABILITY OF THE GRANT
