The California State University, Dominguez Hills Toro Auxiliary Partners (CSUDH TAP) is a non-profit organization and was incorporated in 1968 as a partner of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) to provide supplemental services that enhance core academic programs that are an integral part of the University’s educational mission. CSUDH is a highly diverse, metropolitan university primarily serving the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. CSUDH is one of 23 campuses that comprise the California State University system.

Position Summary:

The Project Rebound Outreach Specialist at CSU Dominguez Hills plays a vital role in supporting formerly incarcerated students' reintegration into higher education.  Reporting to the Program Director, Project Rebound Coordinator, & Faculty associate Directors this position is designed to enhance student recruitment of currently and formerly incarcerated students as well as their retention, and success through targeted outreach, support services, and program development. The Outreach Coordinator will align efforts with CSUDH's "Go Far Together" Strategic Plan, focusing on fostering community, enhancing student experience, and ensuring student success. This position typically works in an office environment but may require travel to correctional facilities, community organizations, and other outreach locations. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to accommodate outreach events or student needs.


This position is full-time, benefited, non-exempt, and in-person.

Hourly rate: $25.00 - $28.00 Depending on Experience

 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Outreach and Recruitment (60%)
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to recruit formerly incarcerated students to CSUDH.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations, correctional facilities, and educational institutions to identify potential students.
  • Represent Project Rebound at local, regional, and statewide events to promote the program and increase awareness.
  1. Student Support and Advocacy (15%) In conjunction with PR Coordinator:
  • Provide individualized support to formerly incarcerated students, including connecting prospective/current PR students to academic advising, career counseling, and personal development support.
  • Advocate for student needs within the university and collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure a supportive campus environment.
  • Assist students in navigating university systems and accessing campus resources by providing holistic mentoring support.
  1. Program Development and Coordination (5%)
  •  In conjunction with Project Rebound Coordinator develop and coordinate workshops, seminars, and events that address the unique needs of formerly incarcerated students.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to create programming that supports students' academic and personal growth.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, using data to inform improvements and report outcomes.
  1. Community and Campus Engagement (15%)
  • Foster a sense of community among Project Rebound students through the creation of peer support networks and mentorship opportunities.
  • Engage with the broader campus community to raise awareness and build support for Project Rebound initiatives.
  • Strengthen campus partnerships
  • Organize and facilitate classroom presentation to bring awareness of Project Rebound in conjunction with Project Rebound Coordinator
  • Collaborate with the Career Center to develop tailored career development programs and pathways for formerly incarcerated students.
  1. Administration and Reporting (5%)
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, including student and staff participation and program activities.
  • Assist PR leadership with preparation of reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist PR leadership with grant writing and fundraising efforts to secure additional resources for the program

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Counseling, Social Work, the Social Sciences or a related field.
  • Experience in outreach, recruitment, or case management, particularly with formerly incarcerated individuals or marginalized populations.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by formerly incarcerated individuals reentering society and pursuing higher education.
  • Experience working with formerly incarcerated individuals and understanding of their unique challenges.
  • Familiarity with the higher education system, particularly within the California State University system or similar institutions.
  • Knowledge of college access and success programs, particularly for low-income or first-generation students.
  • Commitment to social justice and equity in education.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to understand and navigate a dynamic campus culture.

Sensitive positions are those requiring heightened scrutiny of individuals holding the position based on potential for harm to children. Concerns for the safety and security of people, animals, or property, or heightened risk for financial loss to the CSUDH TAP or individuals in the university community. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current employees.

Employees at the CSUDH TAP at will basis and can be terminated by either an employee or the Foundation at any time with or without case or advanced notice. Permanent status can neither be obtained nor granted.
