Position Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to function as the Discharge Clerk for any and/or all clinical programs within the agency.
Examples of Duties
Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Substantial contact with the general public while directing them to appropriate clinics and/or programs for services, scheduling appointments, and ensuring that patient's needs are met.
- Accurately identify and process medical and billing data for claims processing.
- Must have the ability to compile and tabulate data in order to balance the cash drawer at day's end and reconcile drawer to accounts receivable.
- May be required to compose letters and memos to patients regarding missed appointments, rescheduled appointments.
- Provide support services for Public Health Nurses and Medical Providers in the clinical setting.
- Will serve as back-up to the clinic receptionist by greeting incoming patients, completing necessary intake paperwork, assemble patient medical records, answer telephones and direct calls to the appropriate staff member, schedule appointments for in-house patients and prepare medical records for registration.
Employee is subject to be called upon anytime to help the agency respond to a public health emergency which may include, but is not limited to, outbreak investigations, staffing mass dispensing or immunization clinics, providing disaster relief, or other incidents (man-made or natural and intentional or non-intentional) as they arise, or any public health response requested by the Health Director.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Management Preference:
Medical office experience will be a definite plus to minimum requirements.
Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited universities.
