Job Description:
Client is seeking a skilled Technical Writer to support automotive engineering and service documentation teams. This is a contract position based in Warren or Pontiac, MI, ideal for candidates with a background in technical writing within the automotive or manufacturing domain. The writer will be responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality service and repair documentation, ensuring it meets the needs of GM technicians and global service operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create, revise, and update service manuals, diagnostic procedures, bulletins, and technical instructions for GM vehicles and components.
- Interpret engineering documents, CAD drawings, and prototype feedback to produce accurate technical content.
- Collaborate with engineers, product developers, and service teams to gather required technical data.
- Use authoring tools and content management systems to draft and publish documentation according to GM standards.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality, branding, and safety documentation guidelines.
- Participate in document reviews and incorporate feedback from various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in the automotive or manufacturing sector.
- Familiarity with automotive systems, service procedures, and diagnostics.
- Proficient in content management systems and authoring tools such as Arbortext, Adobe FrameMaker, XML, or similar.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with GM documentation systems and standards.
- Knowledge of SAE and ISO standards related to technical publications.
Exposure to Agile development environments and PLM systems.
