Position Overview
The Construction Controller will oversee the financial operations of construction projects, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and providing financial insights to drive project success. This role is critical in managing budgets, financial reporting, and maintaining the overall financial health of the construction division.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage month-end closing processes and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee accounts payable (AP) and ensure timely payments to vendors and subcontractors.
- Handle OCIP enrollments and maintain compliance with insurance requirements.
- Ensure adherence to GAAP standards in all financial transactions and reports.
- Utilize MS Office, particularly Excel, for financial modeling and reporting.
- Implement and manage construction accounting software, specifically Foundation Software, to enhance financial operations.
- Conduct job cost reporting to track project expenses and profitability.
- Perform financial analysis to identify trends and provide actionable insights to management.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy in journal entries.
- Assist in budget preparation and monitoring throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support external audits and ensure compliance with all tax reporting requirements.
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure accurate reporting for union and non-union employees.
- Manage collections and accounts receivable to optimize cash flow.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in construction accounting or a similar role. 2 years recent experience as Controller in Construction.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP principles and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel, and experience with construction accounting software such as Foundation Software.
- Demonstrated experience in month-end closing, job cost reporting, and financial analysis.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide insights.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
