Construction Estimator
The Estimator position is deadline driven and requires a strong work ethic. Flexibility to accommodate changes in bid dates, change order processing and bid reviews is required. The construction estimator prepares and/or coordinates full cost estimates on conceptual, design-build, or general tender work; responsible for evaluating project specifications and drawings, ensuring that we know everything required to successfully buy out our projects; must aggressively follow-up with subcontractors to ensure bids are received.
Responsibilities
- Review invitations to bid to determine scope of work and required contents of bid
- Prepare and assemble bid proposals
- Solicit pricing from qualified vendors and subcontractors
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site tours and post-bid interviews, as required
- Submit timely RFI's and review addenda prior to bid
- Analyze project plans and specifications to prepare accurate and timely quantitative bids
- Research, negotiate and prepare purchase orders and subcontracts for awarded projects, including obtaining the necessary insurance requirements
- Provide detailed project budget for labor, materials, equipment and travel requirements
- Assist in creating, organizing and maintaining customer list in order to facilitate bid process
- Follow up on bids and provide updates to management
- Communicate effectively with customers to discuss quotes, scope of work and resolve issues
- Assist with closeout documents on completed jobs
- Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing customers
- Maintain organized and complete estimating files
- Research new bidding opportunities
- Participate in industry specific continuing education and training
- Provide Administrative duties such as answering phones, printing and distribution of blueprints
- All other duties assigned by Management
Qualifications/Skills:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant construction estimating experience in various general commercial markets. Our portfolio is primarily convenience stores and gas stations.
- Construction/engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience with estimating software and spreadsheet design
- Ability to use Agtek program
- Excellent math and computer skills
- Comprehensive understanding of blueprints
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Current knowledge of state and local building codes
- Self-motivated with solid organization and time management skills
- Team player with the ability to work independently and autonomously
