Dakota Woodlands is a nonprofit organization located in Eagan, MN. Dakota Woodlands is dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for families experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to empower individuals to achieve stability and independence through comprehensive support and compassionate care. We offer housing, resources, and programs designed to help families rebuild their lives and succeed. Clients staying at Dakota Woodlands receive nutritious meals, private bedrooms, personal care products, seasonal clothing, and an opportunity to learn life building skills through targeted case management and family goal planning, which helps them succeed independently.
Position Overview
Dakota Woodlands seeks passionate, dedicated, and dynamic individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a Board Member, you will help shape our organization’s strategic direction, governance, and success while serving as an ambassador in the community. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented communities and BIPOC backgrounds to apply.
We are particularly seeking candidates who:
- Are racially, ethnically, geographically, and/or professionally diverse.
- Are committed to building more equitable communities.
- Have personal and professional networks that can support Dakota Woodlands' growth.
We welcome candidates with expertise in mental health, finance, human resources, law, nonprofit leadership, social work, philanthropy, or foundations who are aligned with our mission and eager to help us grow and support the community.
Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in bi-monthly Board meetings.
- Volunteer at Dakota Woodlands events to engage with the community and support organizational activities.
- Bring innovative ideas and expertise to advance the mission and strengthen organizational impact.
- Leverage professional expertise and networks to assist in fundraising, strategic planning, and community
outreach. - Ensure the organization complies with its mission, values, and governing principles.
- Contribute to Dakota Woodlands through a meaningful annual donation, optional.
- Actively represent Dakota Woodlands in the community, serving as an ambassador to raise awareness of the
organization’s mission.
Serve on at least one Board committee, such as:
- Development Committee (meets monthly).
- Executive Committee (meets bi-monthly, a week before Board meetings).
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in any of the following areas: mental health, nonprofit leadership, social work, development, finance, law, human resources, philanthropy, or foundations.
- Passion for Dakota Woodlands’ mission and commitment to supporting families in need.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Availability to dedicate time to Board meetings, committee work, and organizational events.
Commitment
- Attend six bi-monthly Board meetings annually.
- Terms are for three years, with the option to serve up to three consecutive terms.
- Participate in additional committee meetings and volunteer events as needed.
